The Varaždin Civil Guard, popularly known as the Purgari, are one of the oldest and most famous Croatian historical units and are an indispensable part of the Varaždin culture and identity. In their elegant and distinctive uniforms, the Purgari have become an important tourist attraction by which many visitors remember their trip to Varaždin.
